About the show
An epic yet whimsical story of Maria — a Femme Fatale who embodies the passionate dance of Tango and is the soul of the majestic city of Buenos Aires.
«Born on a day when God was drunk,» «from the fire of passion and the pain of sin,» Maria personifies passion and beauty, rebellion, craving, and fate. Her journey — from the destitute suburbs to the radiance of night streets — becomes a path of self-destruction and mystical rebirth. After her death, she returns to the city as a Shadow — the voice of all the wronged — and the climax becomes the birth of her Daughter — a symbol of a new beginning, purification, hope, and reborn tango.
The production immerses the audience in the atmosphere of a European interwar metropolis, such as Lviv once was. The auditorium transforms into a vibrant and bustling restaurant-varieté — in the style of the famous «Casino de Paris» which operated in the 1910s–1930s in the building of the Les Kurbas Theatre.
The opera is performed in Spanish with Ukrainian subtitles.
