An Artist’s Exploration

What is art—a sanctuary for the soul, an exquisite trap, or the only possible path to understanding?

The performance "Labyrinths of Art" is a philosophical and movement-based exploration of the artist’s destiny and purpose, set within the poetic universe of Lina Kostenko. Her poetry creates a space to reflect on fame and oblivion, the creator's solitude, the responsibility one holds to oneself, the power of the word, and that precarious moment when poetry risks losing its inner tuning fork. Through these images and motifs emerge the fundamental questions of the artist’s moral and aesthetic self-definition: what to choose, what to remain faithful to, and what the price of creative freedom might be.

There is no single, straight path here—only a multitude of turns, doubts, discoveries, and traps. Time and again, the artist faces a choice: to listen to their inner voice or to conform, to preserve their own truth or choose convenience, to move forward or halt before yet another wall. The labyrinth becomes not merely a space for wandering, but a means of exploring oneself, art, and the boundaries of one's own freedom.

The performance offers no ready-made answers; instead, it invites the audience to join in a shared quest. Sound, poetry, metaphor, and movement weave together into a journey where every turn reveals a new meaning, and every obstacle can become a moment of discovery.

So, is there a way out of the labyrinth of art? Or perhaps art is precisely this endless movement—where, having lost your way, you search for the path once more?

The production was created by the "You and the Puppets" acting class at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, under the mentorship of Yana Tytarenko.
