About the show
Evgeny Stankovych "When the Fern Blooms"
folk opera-ballet in 2 acts
The folk opera-ballet "When the Fern Blooms" by Yevgeny Stankovych is a phenomenon in music that is unique both in genre and in stage history. The work was written in 1977, but has never had a full stage incarnation. Our theater took upon itself the courage to vividly and enchantingly realize
an incredibly beautiful artistic canvas woven from folklore motifs presented in modern musical language. This innovative performance does not have a traditional plot, arias, duets, which are common in operas. In the first act, we will look into the colorful times of paganism, when the ancient culture of the Ukrainian people was formed in the unity of man and nature; in the second, we will feel our turbulent days with the echo of war, with heroism inspired by memories of the freedom-loving Cossacks, with anxiety about the threat of a possible future catastrophe.
